How to food plan like a rock star

Before I started my health kick I used to open the fridge door at work at look at the shelves of homemade lunches with envy. There they stood, packed lovingly the night before full of healthy looking goodness. I wanted to be like those who made at work food look so easy. The owners of this food also didn’t have to spend 20 minutes of precious lunchtime hunting for something reasonably healthy to eat. And then pay $15 for the privilege of enjoying said meal. Fortunately, like all those who had come before me, after some investigation I realised that I too could do the food from home thing. All it would take is a little planning, some consideration and confidence and of course, lots of experimentation! You see, bringing healthy, delicious food from home isn’t actually that hard (I know – shock horror!) you just have to prioritise it and apply some savvy organisation tips to the process. Upping the fitness ante

Had you seen me a few months ago you would have noticed that I’d become a lazy lass.  It was cold outside so I went on an exercise hiatus. The temptation to stay in bed was just too strong. Ahh yeah, we’ve all been there… Fortunately a few weeks ago I managed to spur on my inner exercise spirit and get back into moving my body. And yes, as soon as I did there was a positive and noticeable change in both my mood and energy. It was a needed reminder that working out is not only good for the body but also good for the soul. Why ‘organic’ isn’t always good for you; green washing 101

Recently I posted on detoxing from the outside in – if you missed it you can check it out here. Before I shared this post, I swept my house for nasty chemical-ridden products replacing suspicious looking items with supposed healthier, green versions. I checked the labels on each product I purchased and convinced myself that the extra coin was worth it because I was looking after my body (I still believe it is, but that’s another point). As far as I was concerned, post the purge I lived in a happy, healthy home free of most common household toxins. I’m here today to declare that I fell victim to green washing. If only our bodies could talk; the signs you’re probably missing

Good health is incredibly elusive. Every day we hear of different tricks, tips and rules that we should be following to lose weight, improve focus, reduce inflammation, repair our guts, increase fertility etc. (the list goes on!). Yet, despite trying to look after ourselves many of us still commonly fall sick, feel lethargic, experience pain, or know that something just isn’t quite right. While it’s easy to think that the latest health food craze or promise to get fit is the key to longevity, the most important thing we can do to look after ourselves is to listen to our bodies. Living healthy when you’ve got a nine to five

Don’t you hate that the standard response to ‘how are you?’ has become busy. I’m not suggesting that those who respond with this aren’t indeed exceptionally busy, (they’re probably run off their feet), I just hate that this little word has grown to define us. I’m horribly guilty of using busy as my go to answer as it’s often the only word that comes to mind when asked (even when things actually aren’t that busy…). Some days I think it’s more a case of no matter how many hours there are in the day, there’s always that perpetual squeeze to fit more in. Perhaps it’s just human nature. When it comes to prioritising a healthy lifestyle I often hear people say ‘I’m don’t have the time for that’, ‘I couldn’t be bothered’ or ‘where do you find the motivation to cook/exercise/food plan every week’.
